Southampton are keeping a close eye on Celtic winger Jota, according to Football Insider’s Wayne Veysey.

The Lowdown: Solid start

Jota has started the current campaign in fine form, picking up from where he left off last year. The 23-year-old made his move to Parkhead permanent over the summer and has already contributed to 10 goals in all competitions.

The Portuguese winger netted in the Champions League against RB Leipzig in midweek, and it looks as if his performances are catching the eye down south.

The Latest: Saints keen

Veysey shared a story for FI on Saturday regarding Jota and Southampton. He claimed that the Saints are keeping tabs on the player, with scouts delivering ‘glowing reports’ to the club’s recruitment team.

The report adds that Southampton will continue to monitor Jota ahead of a potential move.

The Verdict: A worry…

The Hoops have had two star players swap Celtic Park for St Mary’s in the past in Virgil van Dijk and Victor Wanyama, so Jota could well be the third to make the move, should the Saints firm up their interest.

The lure of Premier League football is sometimes too good to turn down for players, so this update may come as a worry to Celtic chiefs.

However, Jota signed a five-year deal at the club over the summer, meaning he is under contract until 2027, so you’d expect that Southampton would need to place an eye-catching offer for Celtic to sell over the next 12 months, but it could be one to keep an eye on heading into 2023.
