Celtic: Alan Hutton bemoans Cameron Carter-Vickers injury

Celtic: Alan Hutton bemoans Cameron Carter-Vickers injury -Celtic News

Cameron Carter-Vickers’s absence through injury could be a massive blow for Celtic in the coming weeks, according to former Scotland right-back Alan Hutton.

The Lowdown: Carter-Vickers injury setback

The Hoops have made an excellent start to the season, sitting top of the Premiership table and looking well placed to retain their crown.

However, Ange Postecoglou isn’t without injury problems at the moment, and Carter-Vickers has now been added to the treatment table after missing the 2-0 defeat at St Mirren.

The 24-year-old has also missed the international break with the USA, with a prolonged spell on the sidelines potentially on the cards.

The Latest: Hutton worries for Celtic

Speaking to Football Insider, Hutton bemoaned the loss of Carter-Vickers, such is his influence at Parkhead.

The 37-year-old said of the American:

“He has been brilliant since he joined. We saw what he was capable of on loan and he has gone from strength to strength since getting the permanent move. He has been a rock and a foundation at the back to build from.

“I think [Stephen] Welsh is a good player. He is still young and is still learning.

“If they are missing Carter-Vickers for a period of time it would be a problem. He is the dominant centre-half in their team. It could be a problem for Ange Postecoglou moving forward.”

The Verdict: Massive loss for Celtic

Starting six of the team’s seven league games so far this term, Carter-Vickers has been such an influential performer for Celtic since joining from Tottenham, being hailed as ‘immense‘ by Chris Sutton in April.

He has won 3.7 aerial duels per game in the league this season, along with boasting a 91.8% pass completion rate, ranking in the top three in the Hoops’ squad for both metrics.

Will Postecoglou sign a new deal?

Yes

Yes

No

He has proven to be a model of consistency and a well-rounded defender who can win his battles and keep possession ticking over nicely.

The hope is that Carter-Vickers is only out for a short-term period – if not, it has the potential to have an adverse effect on Celtic’s hopes of retaining their league title and making progress in Europe.
