Celtic are eyeing up a move for South Korea international Cho Gue-Sung and transfer expert Dean Jones has been reacting to the news.

The Lowdown: Cho impresses at World Cup

The 24-year-old may have been knocked out of the 2022 World Cup now, but he left his mark at the tournament, shining for South Korea across four matches.

Cho scored twice in Qatar, both of which came against Ghana, and he led the line impressively alongside Tottenham superstar Son Heung-min.

The attacker has been linked with a move to Celtic recently with his agent even confirming talks with teams in Europe, and it looks to be a transfer rumour with real legs.

The Latest: Celtic move possible

Jones reacted to the links in a chat with Give Me Sport, confirming Cho fits the mould he's been 'told' Ange Postecoglou and Mark Lawwell are looking for:

"I think Cho Gue-Sung really does actually fit the type of player I’ve been told to look out for here in terms of a potential signing, and so I think that is a really interesting link."

The Verdict: Exciting attacking target

Cho could be an excellent signing by Celtic, with his performances at the World Cup not only standing out but also an overall record of six goals in 18 caps for his country.

He has also netted 51 times in 136 games at club level, and while the Scottish Premiership would likely be a step up in quality, there is no reason why he couldn't handle it based on his showings on the big stage in Qatar.

Primarily a central nine, Cho could provide stern competition and perhaps a long-term replacement for Giorgos Giakoumakis, giving Celtic the kind of depth to take them to the next level.
