Celtic: Hoops on brink of Sead Haksabanovic signing -Celtic News

Celtic are closing in on the imminent signing of Rubin Kazan winger Sead Haksabanovic, according to a fresh transfer update that emerged overnight.

The Lowdown: Haksabanovic link emerges

On Thursday, it was claimed that the Hoops are in the process of opening talks to sign the 23-year-old, as Ange Postecoglou looks to add more quality and depth to his squad ahead of a gruelling campaign.

Haksabanovic has won 28 caps for Montenegro, scoring once along the way, as well as bagging four assists in 23 appearances for his current club Kazan.

A young player already with so much experience – 184 senior club games to be exact – he looks tailor made to come in and fight for a place under Postecoglou, and a midnight update on Friday morning suggests that will be the case.

The Latest: Move nearly done

According to The Times, Celtic are ‘closing in’ on the permanent acquisition of Haksabanovic, who is currently training alone in Sweden after the war in Ukraine affected his career at Kazan.

Ange has pledged to continue his big moves in the market ‘right up to the end of the summer window’.

It is claimed that the Hoops could now sign him for ‘less than his £6million valuation’, due to his contract being suspended by FIFA.

The Verdict: Strong addition for Hoops

This is an exciting signing for Celtic, with Haksabanovic described as a ‘huge, huge talent’ by journalist Marcus Christenson when he joined West Ham in 2017, while Football Wonderkids called him ‘class‘ for his bounce-back form after he left the Irons.

Will Postecoglou sign a new deal?

No

While the Montenegrin arguably hasn’t yet kicked on and reached the heights many predicted, he is someone who will bring quality and unpredictability out wide for the Hoops – he averaged two key passes and 1.5 dribbles per game for his country in World Cup qualifying.

With a Scottish Premiership title battle and Champions League football to contend with this season, Haksabanovic could be a great option who makes the difference at key moments when the matches start coming thick and fast.
