Journalist Pete O'Rourke has given a glowing review of reported Celtic transfer target Cho Gue-sung.

The Lowdown: Celtic join race for Cho

It was reported earlier this month that the Parkhead giants have joined the race to sign the 24-year-old, but they are just one of numerous European clubs who are keen on his signature.

It was noted that Ange Postecoglou has prior experience of what Cho can do, with the striker scoring against the Hoops manager’s Yokohama F Marinos team in February 2020.

He impressed at the World Cup in Qatar, scoring two goals against Ghana in the group stage and helping South Korea to reach the knockout rounds of the competition.

The Latest: O'Rourke's praise for Cho

Speaking to GiveMeSport, O'Rourke has been impressed by Cho's performances at the World Cup, claiming that he is 'a real handful for defenders'.

The journalist said: “He’s looked good for South Korea, scored a couple of goals against Ghana.

He’s a physical player as well, he can score goals from aerial areas, and I think he’s definitely proven to be a real handful for defenders.

The Verdict: Giakoumakis replacement?

As per Sportime, Georgios Giakoumakis has changed his agent in a further bid to try and force through a move away from the Celts.

If the Greek striker does end up leaving the Premiership champions, Cho could then be brought in as an ideal replacement.

At club level, the South Korean has scored 51 goals and supplied a further 16 assists in just over 130 games (Transfermarkt), and at 24 years of age, he has not hit his prime yet.

Nonetheless, Cho's World Cup performances are sure to gain him more attention ahead of the January transfer window, so Celtic will likely need to get a deal done quickly if they are serious about signing him.
