# Celtic: Paul Robinson believes Southampton’s £10m valuation of Fraser Forster is unfair

**Celtic are hoping to secure a permanent deal for Fraser Forster this summer after a successful loan spell but, according to ex-England goalkeeper Paul Robinson, his valuation by parent club Southampton is excessive.**

[Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/southampton-have-unfairly-priced-him-out-of-a-deal-exclusive-pundit-drops-big-celtic-update/) reported that a recruitment source has said that the Premier League club value [Forster](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fraser-forster/leistungsdaten/spieler/52570) at more than £10m and he is on a contract worth in excess of £70,000-a-week.

In response, Robinson spoke to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/southampton-have-unfairly-priced-him-out-of-a-deal-exclusive-pundit-drops-big-celtic-update/) and said, *“Southampton have unfairly priced him out of a deal at the moment. We are talking about a player who has not been anywhere near the first team squad in 12-18 months. He was surplus to requirements.* *He has gone to Celtic and rejuvenated his career and now looks like a top class goalkeeper again.”*

It’s hard to disagree with Robinson on this one, as Forster has played 28 games and kept 14 clean sheets whilst only conceding 17 goals this season for Celtic, via [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fraser-forster/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/52570/wettbewerb/SC1/saison/2019). His performances have had many fans of the club [begging for him to stay](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/scottish-premier/celtic/celtic-fans-hopeful-that-fraser-forster-will-stay-at-the-club/) and his statistics highlight why they have loved him so much this campaign.

However, at the age of [32](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fraser-forster/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/52570/wettbewerb/SC1/saison/2019), £10m seems a lot to spend on him (their record outlay on a player is [£9.27m](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/transferrekorde/verein/371)) and Celtic might have to reevaluate their options.

It is unfair for the goalkeeper as well, as he has been [surplus to requirements at the Saints](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fraser-forster/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/52570/wettbewerb/SC1/saison/2019) since Ralph Hasenhuttl became manager and, after a renaissance back at Parkhead, he could be denied a move which might have enabled him to finish out his career on a high.
