# Celtic: Penrice set for Hoops exit over 2020 blunder

**Celtic are making a number of off-field changes ahead of the 2021/22 campaign, and it seems as if another chief looks set to follow [Peter Lawwell](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55852763) and [Nick Hammond](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11787/12262012/nick-hammond-celtic-announce-departure-of-clubs-head-of-football-operations) out of Parkhead.**

According to a Hoops source, reported by [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-penrice-set-to-leave-celtic-after-spearheading-2020-flop-signing/), Celtic recruitment chief Gary Penrice is in line for the exit after being the driving force for the failed Shane Duffy signing in the summer of 2020.

The 57-year-old, formerly of Everton, [spearheaded a season-long loan deal for Duffy](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-penrice-set-to-leave-celtic-after-spearheading-2020-flop-signing/) last summer, which, safe to say, hasn’t worked out.

Duffy has [started just one of the club’s last nine Scottish Premiership fixtures](https://www.transfermarkt.com.mt/shane-duffy/leistungsdaten/spieler/119269), and it seems as if the Hoops are planning for life without the Irishman after [much criticism](https://www.glasgowtimes.co.uk/sport/18984297.ex-celtic-ace-tears-shane-duffy-derby-flop-claims-wouldve-ten-times-worse-sell-out-ibrox/).

It appears as if they’re also now getting ready for life without Penrice, who was [named head of recruitment at Celtic Park 12 months ago](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-penrice-set-to-leave-celtic-after-spearheading-2020-flop-signing/).

### Transfer Tavern take

Since Penrice was appointed as head of recruitment, it’s not only Duffy who has flopped.

The likes of [Albian Ajeti](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53755841) and [Vasilis Barkas](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53559787), who the club paid big money for over the summer, have both struggled in their first season in Glasgow.

On that basis, with a major Hoops reshuffle going on, it makes perfect sense for the club to part ways with Penrice and bring in a new man picked out by Dominic McKay and Fergal Harkin, with the latter set to be appointed as the [new director of football](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-celtic-close-to-appointing-harkin-after-new-talks-and-hughes-latest/).
