# Celtic: Pete O’Rourke makes Jota claim

**Journalist Pete O’Rourke has stated that a permanent move for Jota would come out of Celtic’s ‘summer budget’, [GiveMeSport](https://www.givemesport.com/87970701-celtic-transfer-news-hoops-tipped-to-take-option-to-sign-jota-permanently) report.**

### The Lowdown: January talks

The Hoops have a [£6.5m](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11787/12508514/celtic-hope-to-seal-permanent-jota-and-cameron-carter-vickers-deals) option to buy Jota in a season-long loan agreement with Benfica and were in [talks](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11787/12508514/celtic-hope-to-seal-permanent-jota-and-cameron-carter-vickers-deals) over a permanent move in January.

As we know, a full-time switch hasn’t materialised just yet, but that hasn’t impacted the 22-year-old’s performances – he bagged [twice](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jota/leistungsdaten/spieler/329812) against Aberdeen on Wednesday.

The Scottish Premiership [Player of the Month](https://www.celticfc.com/news/2021/november/22/jota-is-premiership-player-of-the-month-for-october/) winner for October has been a [regular](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jota/leistungsdaten/spieler/329812) on the left-hand side of a front three under Ange Postecoglou this season, registering [eight](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jota/leistungsdaten/spieler/329812) assists, and O’Rourke has been having his say on a permanent deal.

### The Latest: O’Rourke’s comments

O’Rourke was talking to [GiveMeSport](https://www.givemesport.com/87970701-celtic-transfer-news-hoops-tipped-to-take-option-to-sign-jota-permanently) in a story released on Thursday evening. He confirmed an option to buy clause in a loan agreement and said a permanent move would come out of the club’s ‘summer budget’.

> “They’ve got Jota until the end of the season with an option to buy, and they can take that option up at the end of the season, which will then come from their summer budget.”

### The Verdict: No brainer?

Some may have wondered if a permanent move for Jota was factored into the club’s financial plans last season, but it seems as if that wasn’t the case.

The Hoops have spent just shy of [£24m](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/transfers/verein/371) this season but have brought in [£33m](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/transfers/verein/371) through sales – mainly through Odsonne Edouard and Kristoffer Ajer’s moves to the Premier League.

Therefore, the Portuguese winger could be brought in permanently over the summer and would still keep the Hoops in profit over the last 12 months.

A £6.5m move for Jota, who has scored [23](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jota/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/329812) goals during his career, appears to be a no brainer, especially as he already surpassed his [best campaign](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jota/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/329812) in front of goal with [10](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jota/leistungsdaten/spieler/329812) strikes in green and white.
