# Celtic: Postecoglou adds Sviatchenko to list of targets

**Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou had added former Hoops defender Erik Sviatchenko to a list of possible summer signings, according to the [Daily Record](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfer-news/erik-sviatchenko-lined-up-celtic-24327124.amp?__twitter_impression=true).**

### The Lowdown: Sviatchenko’s continued success

The 29-year-old is still with Danish side FC Midtjylland after leaving Parkhead back in [2018 in a deal worth £1m](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/erik-sviatchenko/transfers/spieler/48907).

The centre-back is [Midtjylland’s captain](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/erik-sviatchenko/profil/spieler/48907), and after winning [six major honours with the Hoops](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/erik-sviatchenko/erfolge/spieler/48907), has gone on to more success with his current employers. He’s lifted [three more trophies in his second spell with Midtjylland, taking his career honour tally to 10](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/erik-sviatchenko/erfolge/spieler/48907).

Sviatchenko, who has [five caps for Denmark to his name](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/erik-sviatchenko/profil/spieler/48907), still has [three years remaining on his Midtjylland contract](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/erik-sviatchenko/profil/spieler/48907), but it seems as if Postecoglou could look to bring him back to Scotland.

### The Latest: Sviatchenko links

The [Daily Record](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfer-news/erik-sviatchenko-lined-up-celtic-24327124.amp?__twitter_impression=true) report that Sviatchenko is in line for a dramatic return to Glasgow, adding the centre-back has unfinished business at Celtic Park.

He’s on Postecoglou’s list of Celtic targets, with a Parkhead rebuild set to take shape under the Australian.

Sviatchenko, who is a [big fan of Hoops coach John Kennedy](https://www.sundaypost.com/fp/erik-sviatchenko-john-kennedy/), has a [buy-out clause](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfer-news/erik-sviatchenko-lined-up-celtic-24327124.amp?__twitter_impression=true) in his current deal and is also attracting interest from the Premier League.

### The Verdict: A no brainer?

With Kristoffer Ajer [confirming](https://twitter.com/arilasos/status/1400733868735488001) he wants to leave Celtic earlier this month, Postecoglou will more than likely be in search of multiple centre-back additions over the coming months.

Stephen Welsh will be the [Hoops’ only fit senior centre-back on the books](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/kader/verein/371/saison_id/2020) if Ajer leaves, with [Christopher Jullien sidelined since the New Year](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/chris-jullien-injury-bombshell-celtic-23251380).

Bringing in someone like Sviatchenko, who knows the club extremely well and what it takes to be successful, could be an excellent piece of business.

He’s made [63](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/erik-sviatchenko/leistungsdaten/spieler/48907) appearances for Celtic, has turned out on [39](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/erik-sviatchenko/detaillierteleistungsdaten/spieler/48907) occasions in the Champions League and Europa League, and at 29, you’d expect Sviatchenko will still have plenty to offer over the coming years, should he seal a return to Scotland.
