# Celtic: Ross Barkley’s agent ‘working’ to find new club

**[Transfer insider](https://twitter.com/DeanJonesSoccer?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor) Dean Jones has claimed that wages are proving to be the ‘sticking point’ for [Celtic](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/celtic-news/) as the agent of Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley seeks a new home for the midfielder.**

### The lowdown: Hoops make offer

The Hoops have been extensively linked with a move for Barkley in recent weeks and a report from [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-celtic-submit-ross-barkley-offer-amid-chelsea-green-light/) claimed that the Scottish champions have ‘submitted an offer’ to make a loan deal happen.

However, as things stand the 28-year-old England international remains on the periphery of matters at Chelsea as [West Ham](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/west-ham-news/west-ham-united-ross-barkley-chelsea-latest-transfer-news-rumours-updates/) consider a move and Everton also eye up their former academy graduate.

Now, one well-informed onlooker has shed some light on the current situation surrounding Barkley and a possible move to Parkhead…

### The latest: ‘Sticking point is…’

Speaking to [Give Me Sport](https://www.givemesport.com/88048088-celtic-move-would-suit-120k-a-week-star-at-parkhead), Jones – a journalist for [Eurosport](https://www.eurosport.com/dean-jones_aut2710/author.shtml) – claims that the Bhoys are struggling to land the [33-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ross-barkley/nationalmannschaft/spieler/131978/verein_id/3299) star due to the wages involved, though his agent is hard at work behind the scenes.

He said: “I think this is a move that suits all parties, but the big sticking point is whether Celtic can find a way to pay his wages.

“I think if it can get done, it will, because his agent has been working to find him a new club because they know he’s got no future at Chelsea.”

### The verdict: Expensive outlay

Currently earning a reported [£96,000 per week](https://fbref.com/en/players/3a24769f/Ross-Barkley) at Chelsea, it’s perhaps no surprise that the Celtic Park hierarchy are reluctant to go near that sum for the Liverpool-born ace given their own top earner, Callum McGregor, earns £30,000 a week at present ([Salary Sport](https://salarysport.com/football/scottish-premiership/celtic/)).

That said, out of favour in London, Barkley could be willing to drastically reduce his demands in order to play regular football once again, particularly with [former England teammate](https://www.thefa.com/news/2014/may/12/roy-hodgson-on-joe-hart-ross-barkley) Joe Hart already in situ and with UEFA Champions League football on offer in Glasgow.

Boasting a mammoth [209 Premier League appearances](https://www.premierleague.com/players/4115/Ross-Barkley/stats) in a career that has seen the attacking midfielder [lift](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ross-barkley/erfolge/spieler/131978) the UEFA Europa League, FIFA Club World Cup and the FA Cup, adding the marauding Englishman to Ange Postecoglou’s ranks would be a superb acquisition if the issues over wages can be overcome.
