# Celtic: Ryan Christie contract update emerges

**Celtic could end up losing Ryan Christie for nothing over the next 12 months.**

According to [The Mail on Sunday](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/index.html), cited by the [Daily Record](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/celtic-could-lose-ryan-christie-23977806), the 26-year-old’s contract actually expires in January 2022. [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ryan-christie/profil/spieler/188077) have his expiry date down for May 2022, but it seems as if that is not the case.

Christie, who earns [£12,000 per week](https://salarysport.com/football/scottish-premiership/celtic/) at Parkhead, has [attracted interest from a plethora of Premier League clubs](https://www.90min.com/posts/arsenal-premier-league-clubs-transfer-celtic-ryan-christie-leicester-southampton) since the turn of the year. The [£8.1m-rated](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ryan-christie/profil/spieler/188077) midfielder has been a regular for the Hoops this season, making [43](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ryan-christie/leistungsdaten/spieler/188077) appearances in all competitions under both Neil Lennon and John Kennedy.

### Transfer Tavern take

If Peter Lawwell and Dominic McKay don’t get Christie’s situation sorted over the coming months, they could be in for a transfer blunder. The 26-year-old will be able to talk to clubs outside of Scotland this summer ahead of a potential free transfer in January.

Should the [Scotland international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ryan-christie/profil/spieler/188077) have no intentions of extending his Parkhead stay, Lawwell and McKay may be forced to sell him at a cut-price fee to prevent them from receiving nothing at the beginning of 2022.

It may only be for a few million, but that would be better than allowing Christie to walk away halfway through the 2021/22 season on a free transfer. Now is the time to act in order to try and prevent that from happening.
