# Celtic: Sky Sports journalist clears up future of Shane Duffy at Parkhead

**Celtic defender Shane Duffy will not leave the club early and will stay at Parkhead until his loan spell ends, according to Sky Sports journalist [Anthony Joseph](https://twitter.com/AnthonyRJoseph/status/1349764895907196930).**

### Duffy here to stay

The 29-year-old made the move up north from Premier League side Brighton in the summer and has received heavy [criticism](https://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/celtic/shane-duffy-celtic-boss-addresses-criticism-under-fire-defender-3014123) from the fans over some of his performances.

It got so intense that the Republic of Ireland international [deleted](https://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/18991023.celtic-star-deletes-twitter-instagram-accounts-amid-dubai-trip-row/#:~:text=Shane%20Duffy%20has%20deleted%20his,to%20London%20Heathrow%20yesterday%20morning.) his Twitter and Instagram accounts, but he was backed by manager Neil Lennon, who [condemned](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/neil-lennon-responds-shane-duffy-22901063) the abuse he had been receiving.

Despite all of this, Joseph [reported](https://twitter.com/AnthonyRJoseph/status/1349764895907196930) on Thursday that Duffy will be staying at Celtic until the end of the 2020/21 campaign, despite [suggestions](https://www.67hailhail.com/news/celtic-star-reportedly-allowed-to-leave-on-one-condition/) that he could leave the club.

He added that the [£8.55m-rated](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/shane-duffy/profil/spieler/119269) centre-back attracted interest from English Championship club Nottingham Forest – but they did not make an official move and are not looking to sign a defender this month.

### Transfer Tavern Verdict

Duffy has had a tough time at Celtic because the expectations at the club are sky-high considering what they have achieved in the last nine years.

Despite this, Duffy has averaged the second-highest match rating for a centre-back at the club with 7.30, just behind Christopher Jullien ([Whoscored](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/103/Show/Scotland-Celtic)).

Perhaps if he can regain some form, fitness and confidence the Irishman can become a valuable asset in the second half of the season for Lennon.
