Celtic: Hoops backed to sell Josip Juranovic for £15million

Celtic defender Josip Juranovic in action for Croatia at the 2022 World Cup

Celtic could potentially sell in-demand right-back Josip Juranovic for as much as £15million, according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus.

The Lowdown: Juranovic’s stock rising

The 27-year-old is enjoying an exceptional World Cup campaign with Croatia, playing a key role in them reaching the semi-finals against Argentina.

Juranovic has been a model of consistency at right-back, providing defensive stability and attacking thrust, and he provided an assist in the 4-1 win over Canada.

The Celtic man’s displays, along with a lack of progress on a new contract, have led to speculation surrounding his future, with a January exit possibly on the cards.

The Latest: Could be worth £15m

Speaking to Football Insider, McManus suggested that a £15million is possible after seeing Juranovic’s performance against Brazil – something that will leave the Celtic board delighted:

“You are maybe talking £6million before that game but he was then absolutely outstanding against Brazil. There is no bigger shop window in the world than beating Brazil at the World Cup. Everybody has seen that performance now.

“He’s 27, the peak of his career, and he kept one of the best in the world quiet in Vinicius Jr. The Celtic board will be rubbing their hands together and you are talking about £10million or £15million now, easily.

“Celtic can get that purely on the basis of his brilliant World Cup and it’s not over yet.”

The Verdict: Resigned to him leaving

While it would be great to see Juranovic see out his career at Celtic, the realistic outcome is that he will be leaving for a bigger challenge in the very near future.

In truth, it is hard to begrudge the Croatian that opportunity and it is vital that the Hoops receive as much money as they possibly can for his services.

Considering Juranovic only cost Celtic £2.5million last year, they look set to make a huge profit on him, and the board would indeed be wise to strike while the iron is hot, using the funds for top-quality new additions.
