# Rangers: Insider reveals Sydney Super Cup news

**Glasgow Rangers insider The 4th Official has revealed that the Ibrox club are now looking to pull out from playing in the Old Firm derby in Australia.**

### The Lowdown: Controversy

As [confirmed](https://www.rangers.co.uk/Article/rangers-return-to-australia-for-sydney-super-cup/3aRkKqUlComNDiyky14Oqd) by the Light Blues earlier this month, Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s team have accepted an invite to the Sydney Super Cup in Australia in November.

They will face Western Sydney Wanderers before playing city rivals Celtic in the first-ever Old Firm match to be played outside of Glasgow.

### The Latest: Pulling out?

Taking to Twitter, [The 4th Official](https://twitter.com/Official_T4O/status/1504922744168849411) – who regularly [breaks](https://twitter.com/Official_T4O/status/1460938546295021575) news and updates from Rangers – has revealed that the club are now looking to pull out from the clash against the Hoops and are looking at legal options. They posted:

*“Rangers are looking to back out from the controversial plan to play an Old Firm in Australia in November as they are looking at legal options.*

*“Also unhappiness at the organisers of the Sydney Super Cup at how this played out.”*

### The Verdict: Get it done

As much as it might be a good break for the players, Rangers simply need to get out of the tournament as soon as possible.

There has already been [a lot of backlash](https://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/rangers/rangers-fans-audible-opposition-to-australia-old-firm-friendly-plan-3594176) against their participation, given the links to Celtic’s Australian manager Ange Postecoglou and the possibility of being largely be undermined compared to the Hoops, while it is also a long way to travel for a friendly tournament and increases the risk of injuries and fatigue.

A decision to withdraw would surely be hailed by the majority of the Ibrox fanbase, if the [initial reaction](https://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/rangers/rangers-fans-audible-opposition-to-australia-old-firm-friendly-plan-3594176) to the news is anything to go by.
