# Celtic: Fans believe Thomas Gravesen never fulfilled his potential

**A question from [Celtic1967.com](https://twitter.com/Celtic1967_com/status/1260902683730468864?s=20) asking what one player the Hoops faithful believe never fulfilled their true potential under former manager Gordan Strachan has led many Celtic fans naming Thomas Gravesen.**

The defensive midfielder arrived with a lot of hype around him as he made the £2.70 million move from Spanish giants Real Madrid back in 2006, per [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/thomas-gravesen/transfers/spieler/301).

Even though he won the league title with the Hoops in the 2006/07 campaign, per [thecelticwiki](https://www.thecelticwiki.com/page/Gravesen%2C+Thomas), he wasn’t greatly involved with the title run on the pitch, as he made 18 appearances in the league, with six of these coming from the bench. He did score six goals, but in all competitions he only made 23 appearances for the Scottish side.

Following a season at the Celts, the Denmark international, per [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/thomas-gravesen/transfers/spieler/301), went to Premier League side Everton on a season-long loan and when he returned to the Scottish club, he retired.

It was sadly not the spell that fans had hoped the Dane would have, but it seems the club signed him at the wrong time as he only had two seasons left in him when he joined. Hindsight would have been a great thing but at the time, signing a player who made 49 appearances at Madrid, per [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/thomas-gravesen/transfers/spieler/301), would have seemed like a real coup.

Here is what fans had to say following the tweet:

> Graveson by a country mile. We really thought we’d signed a class. Total dud.\
> These days he’s apparently a billionaire after investing his earnings wisely.
