# Celtic: Vasilis Barkas update emerges

**Vasilis Barkas could still leave Celtic on loan this summer, with Greek journalist [Giannis Chorianopoulos](https://twitter.com/choria80/status/1421473623919976455) claiming ‘everything is on the table’.**

### The Lowdown: Barkas under Postecoglou

Barkas, who the Hoops signed last summer in a deal worth [£4.5m](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53559787), began Ange Postecoglou’s tenure as Celtic boss as first choice.

He was named in Postecoglou’s starting line ups in pre-season games with [Sheffield Wednesday](https://twitter.com/CelticFC/status/1412754899411128324), [Charlton Athletic](https://twitter.com/CelticFC/status/1413841804475183106), [Bristol City](https://twitter.com/CelticFC/status/1415366893284872192), [Preston North End](https://twitter.com/CelticFC/status/1416416658273484811) and [West Ham](https://twitter.com/CelticFC/status/1418915250578022407).

The Greek goalkeeper also started against [FC Midtjylland](https://twitter.com/CelticFC/status/1417537377023766532) in the first leg of Celtic’s Champions League qualifier, but following his [mistake](https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/football/7431668/celtic-barkas-sutton-stewart-hands-midytjlland-goal/) in the second half, hasn’t featured since.

[Chorianopoulos](https://twitter.com/choria80/status/1421473623919976455) described Barkas’ performance as a ‘catastrophe’, and it appears as if may still leave Parkhead this summer.

### The Latest: Chorianopoulos’ tweet

Journalist [Chorianopoulos](https://twitter.com/choria80/status/1421473623919976455) took to Twitter on Saturday afternoon to provide an update on the 27-year-old.

He suggested that Postecoglou’s plans were with Barkas as his number one, however, his displays, along with the [links](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1420759914255769613) to Joe Hart, are making things complicated.

[Chorianopoulos](https://twitter.com/choria80/status/1421473623919976455) suggested that if a club express an interest in Barkas, the Hoops will demand a loan fee for his services.

> “Postecoglou plans were with Barkas No1. Midtjylland match was a catastrophe and Hart’s transfer making things complicated. Everything is on the table atm. If a club express interest (not for a permanent transfer) Celtic will demand loan fee.”

### The Verdict: Loan to make sense?

With [rumours](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-hart-ready-to-take-pay-cut-to-quit-tottenham-and-sign-for-celtic/) over Hart moving to Parkhead gathering pace, it could make sense for Celtic to move Barkas, who Neil Lennon described as [‘excellent’](https://www.67hailhail.com/news/vasilis-barkas-praised-by-lennon-for-celtic-debut-at-kilmarnock/), out on loan for the season.

He still has [three](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/vasilis-barkas/profil/spieler/248658) years left on his contract, so having the chance to get regular football elsewhere may help in the long run.

A positive stint out on loan could save his Celtic career, or it may help the Hoops receive a fee close to the £4.5m they paid for the ‘keeper, should they wish to cash in next summer.
