# Celtic: Vasilis Barkas wanted by IFK Goteborg

**Swedish side IFK Goteborg have made an enquiry for Celtic goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas, [Anthony Joseph](https://twitter.com/anthonyrjoseph/status/1487114183942488073?s=21) reports.**

### The Lowdown: Breakdown with the Blades

Barkas appears to be surplus to requirements at Celtic Park and could become the second shot-stopper to leave the club this month after [Conor Hazard](https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/football/8301732/conor-hazard-leaves-celtic-hjk-helsinki-loan-transfer/).

The Greece international has featured just [twice](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/vasilis-barkas/leistungsdaten/spieler/248658) under Ange Postecoglou and was recently [linked](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/celtic-transfer-rumours/barkas-transfer-latest-sheffield-united-end-talks/) with a move to Sheffield United.

However, talks broke down between the two clubs due to Celtic’s demands over a loan move, with the Blades going on to sign Adam Davies instead.

### The Latest: Joseph’s post

[Joseph](https://twitter.com/anthonyrjoseph/status/1487114183942488073?s=21) took to Twitter on Friday afternoon to share a fresh update on Barkas and a possible late exit.

He revealed details of Goteborg’s enquiry and admitted that Celtic are open to offers for the 6 foot 4 colossus.

### The Verdict: Time to go

Barkas, thought to be on [£9,000-a-week](https://salarysport.com/football/player/vasilis-barkas/#:~:text=Vasilis%20Barkas%20earns%20%C2%A39%2C000,contract%20expires%20June%2030%2C%202024.), has featured in just [two](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/vasilis-barkas/leistungsdaten/spieler/248658) Scottish Premiership matchday squads all season. He clearly isn’t fancied by Postecoglou, so moving him out on loan for the remainder of the campaign could be a good idea.

Allowing him to play regular football could then help the club when it comes to selling him permanently, with Barkas still under contract in Glasgow until [2024](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/vasilis-barkas/profil/spieler/248658).

Celtic may not recoup the [£4.5m](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53559787) they spent on the 27-year-old, with his [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/vasilis-barkas/marktwertverlauf/spieler/248658) valuation dropping to just £1.35m, but a solid second half of the season in Sweden may benefit all involved.
