# Celtic: Wyke talks progressing well

**Celtic’s talks with Sunderland striker Charlie Wyke are progressing well, according to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sunderland-facing-massive-blow-as-wyke-edges-closer-to-celtic-move-phillips/).**

### The Lowdown: Hoops make their move; Wyke ‘very keen’

Celtic aren’t the only side interested in snapping up the 28-year-old on a free transfer.

Championship sides Cardiff City, Nottingham Forest and Millwall all held [initial talks](https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/football/19370774.celtic-increasingly-confident-signing-sunderlands-charlie-wyke/) with the free-scoring forward, who his former manager [Phil Parkinson hailed as ‘excellent’](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/phil-parkinson-praises-excellent-sunderland-19122721), however, [reports](https://www.footballinsider247.com/celtic-wyke-talks-this-week/) have suggested he is ‘very keen’ to join Celtic.

The Hoops appeared to [open talks with the striker on Thursday](https://www.footballinsider247.com/celtic-tipped-to-sign-striker-who-could-reach-toneys-level-after-sources-update-today/), and it seems as if discussions are going well.

### The Latest: Source shares update

Former Sunderland striker and [Football Insider pundit Kevin Phillips](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sunderland-facing-massive-blow-as-wyke-edges-closer-to-celtic-move-phillips/) was having his say on a potential Hoops move for Wyke and what it would mean for the Black Cats.

In that story, shared on Friday, [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sunderland-facing-massive-blow-as-wyke-edges-closer-to-celtic-move-phillips/) claimed the latest update from a recruitment source is that talks with the Hoops are progressing well.

Phillips claimed a possible Parkhead switch for Wyke would be a [‘massive blow’](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sunderland-facing-massive-blow-as-wyke-edges-closer-to-celtic-move-phillips/) for Sunderland.

### The Verdict: A possible shrewd addition

Should Celtic get a deal over the line for Wyke, it could be a solid first signing for new Celtic CEO Dominic McKay and manager Ange Postecoglou.

The [pair met in London on Friday](https://twitter.com/CelticFC/status/1405909238879342597) to continue preparations for the new season, so Wyke could have been on the agenda for the two.

He scored [30](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/charlie-wyke/leistungsdaten/spieler/163535) goals last season in all competitions, [more than any other Celtic player](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/celtic/top-scorers). Wyke’s Sunderland deal was also thought to be worth [£6,400-a-week](https://salarysport.com/football/sky-bet-league-one/sunderland/), considerably [less than a number of Hoops players](https://salarysport.com/football/scottish-premiership/celtic/).

So, on that basis, a free transfer for the Englishman could be a shrewd acquisition going forward.
