# Celtic: Yannick Bolasie identified as transfer target for Hoops

**Celtic are chasing the signature of Everton forward Yannick Bolasie, with two other clubs also believed to be in the mix.**

[Goal.com](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/bolasie-set-for-everton-exit-with-three-clubs-competing-for/1k15x5d58iv1s1evb452vjdfia) reported that the Hoops were targeting the 30-year-old [Democratic Republic of Congo international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/yannick-bolasie/profil/spieler/75471), who is also on the radar of Besiktas and Rennes.

According to [Goal.com](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/bolasie-set-for-everton-exit-with-three-clubs-competing-for/1k15x5d58iv1s1evb452vjdfia), Everton want the player off their books and had agreed a loan agreement with a £5million option to buy with CSKA Moscow, but Bolasie rejected the deal as he does not want to move to Russia.

The winger, who is on wages of £80,000 a week at Goodison Park, would likely cost prospective suitors around the £5m mark, as claimed by [Goal.com](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/bolasie-set-for-everton-exit-with-three-clubs-competing-for/1k15x5d58iv1s1evb452vjdfia).

Bolasie [joined Everton from Crystal Palace for £25m](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/37083859) three years ago but his Toffees career was torpedoed by a [cruciate ligament injury](https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/bolasie-out-for-the-season-zt6czf5rk) in December 2016 which [kept him out of action for just over a year](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/yannick-bolasie/verletzungen/spieler/75471).

He has made just [32 appearances for the Merseysiders and scored twice](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/yannick-bolasie/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/75471) before he was loaned out to [Aston Villa](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/45281262) and [Anderlecht](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/47073854) last season.

He [scored just twice in 21 games for Aston Villa](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/yannick-bolasie/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/75471) but his spell in Belgium was more productive, with [six goals in 17 appearances for Anderlecht](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/yannick-bolasie/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/75471).

Ronald Koeman, who [signed him for Everton in 2016](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/aston-villa-everton-yannick-bolasie-15378226), described Bolasie as “the type of winger I like – fast, strong and he can play different positions in the forward line”. \[[via Birmingham Live](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/aston-villa-everton-yannick-bolasie-15378226)\]

The winger [scored 10 goals and provided 17 assists in his final two seasons at Crystal Palace](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/yannick-bolasie/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/75471) before moving to the Toffees, but he has tended to be very careless in possession.

His passing success rate in his time at Villa Park last season was just [72.3%](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/69844/History/Yannick-Bolasie) and even that was a major improvement on the [62.9%](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/69844/History/Yannick-Bolasie) he recorded with Everton in 2017/18.

Celtic already have an abundance of left-sided wingers and midfielders in [Scott Sinclair, Mikey Johnston and Lewis Morgan](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/celtic-glasgow/startseite/verein/371), the latter two making their mark in the early weeks of the season.

Johnston has [scored twice for the Hoops already in this campaign](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mikey-johnston/leistungsdaten/spieler/297257), while Morgan has [started four of the Hoops’ seven games so far and twice come on as a substitute, providing two assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lewis-morgan/leistungsdaten/spieler/311351).

In left-back Boli Bolingoli, Celtic already have a player on that flank with pace in abundance but a habit of giving the ball away needlessly, as highlighted by Jonathan McFarlane of [Football Scotland](https://www.footballscotland.co.uk/spfl/scottish-premiership/james-forrest-heroics-boli-bolingolis-16717868).

Bolasie’s ball retention statistics do not make for good reading, while his pace may not be as strong an asset given that he is now in his 30s and has had a serious injury.

Johnston and Morgan have both made encouraging starts to the season, so it does not seem wise for Celtic to bring in a much older wide player who does not retain possession well in Bolasie.
