# Cesar Wants To Sign For Spurs …He’d Be Wasting His Time At Arsenal

**Having been told he’s free to leave Inter Milan, goalkeeper Julio Cesar is reportedly wanted by North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham.**

Inter Milan are undergoing a huge rebuilding process and as a result, experienced heads like [Maicon](https://www.insidefutbol.com/2012/07/27/maicon-cool-on-europa-league-in-bid-to-push-real-madrid-move/66081/) and [Lucio](https://www.insidefutbol.com/2012/07/27/maicon-cool-on-europa-league-in-bid-to-push-real-madrid-move/66081/) won’t be with the team next season. Their compatriot Julio Cesar is also set for the exit door after Inter signed Udinese’s Slovenian stopper Samir Handanovic to take his place.

*And according to[reports](https://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/football/premier-league/transfer-rumours/120726/spurs-and-arsenal-fight-it-out-sign-inter-milan-star-177444) in Italy, the 32 year old goalkeeper is now the target of two Premier League sides – Arsenal and Tottenham.*

Now, don’t get me wrong – I rate Julio Cesar, I think he’s a very good goalkeeper – but how does a move to Arsenal make sense? It’s the same as the Hugo Lloris situation.

Arsenal currently have a young goalkeeper who I happen to think is one of the best in the Premier League. Wojciech Szczesny’s development over the past 18 months or so has been brilliant, even if he had a disappointing Euro 2012 tournament.

Signing Cesar wouldn’t be good for anyone; if Szczesny remains Number 1, Cesar will have been brought in on huge wages just to sit on the bench, whilst promoting Cesar to Number 1 will stall the Polish international’s development.

Spurs, on the other hand, would be a much better fit for the Brazilian. Andre Villas-Boas is on the lookout for a new goalkeeper with Brad Friedel now 41 years old.

Cesar would almost certainly be first choice at White Hart Lane and it would be a really ambitious signing – a signal of intent for the new era in North London. *To me, one move makes no sense at all and the other makes almost too much sense.*
