A moment in time: QPR’s 2013 west London derby victory

For Queens Park Rangers supporters, the 2012/13 Premier League season was one to forget.

It was a campaign that ended in relegation with Harry Redknapp’s men finishing the term rock bottom in the table.

Still, there were a few highlights the Loftus Road faithful could takeaway with none being greater than the victory against rivals Chelsea in a west London derby.

The Rs travelled to Stamford Bridge early in the new year with everyone expecting Rafael Benitez’s side to blow them away.

The Blues entered the game in great form, making the task an even more daunting one for the visitors.

But in the end, QPR were able to play the role of party poopers, condemning their west London rivals to a 1-0 defeat – and they had an ex-Chelsea player to thank.

Shaun Wright-Phillips was the man to grab the only goal of the game, sinking his former side in the process to the delight of the QPR supporters.

Albeit futile in the grand scheme of things, it was still three points won against an enemy and a first top-flight win away at Stamford Bridge since 1979 (BBC Sport).

Six years on and QPR are an outfit far from the Premier League with the club now battling for survival in the Championship.

Worrying times? Perhaps. Things looked extremely bleak under Steve McClaren.

But with the 57-year-old now gone and a new coach expected to be appointed soon, QPR fans will begin to feel optimistic again, dreaming of future top-flight victories like the one against Chelsea.
