According to the Birmingham Mail, West Brom have missed out on signing Simon Moore this summer as the goalkeeper has penned a new deal with Sheffield United.
The report states that the Baggies wish to bring in another ‘keeper this summer in order to create plenty of competition for the starting spot. Despite the arrivals of both Sam Johnstone and Jonathan Bond during this transfer window, Darren Moore’s recruitment between the sticks doesn’t yet look to be done.
With Simon Moore sticking with the Blades though, the Baggies will have to turn their attentions elsewhere in their search for a new shot-stopper.
Moore’s new recruits, Johnstone and Bond, are both young, talented and full of promise. Neither can boast any top level experience though, and perhaps that is something the manager will look to add this summer.
Following their signing of Vicente Guaita, Crystal Palace look set to begin next season with Wayne Hennessey as their back up ‘keeper. The 31-year-old Welshman may have other ideas though, which could see him become available during this window.
In bringing Hennessey to the Hawthorns, Moore would be adding the experience that his goalkeeping contingent currently lacks.
A move would also be in Hennessey’s best interests as, if he can establish himself as the no. 1 for the Baggies, then he stands a far greater chance of keeping himself in the Wales international set up than he would if he were warming the bench at Selhurst Park.
Transfermarkt value Hennessey at £3.6 million. For a fee in that region, his acquisition would be a great way for Darren Moore to complete his highly competitive and exciting net-minding trio.Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
