Aston Villa could see Mile Jedinak and Glenn Whelan leave in the summer

Aston Villa will look to use the upcoming summer transfer window as a means to try and clear the books and reduce their wage bill to try and come in line with Financial Fair Play regulations.

And, according to a report by The Birmingham Mail, it would appear some of their more experienced players could be about to make way.

The report suggests the likes of Mile Jedinak and Glenn Whelan could be some of the first names to depart from Villa Park once the season comes to an end.

Both of the players are reaching the latter stages of their careers and their current contracts at the club are set to expire in the summer.

Dean Smith had been working hard to bring in a number of players in the winter and it is likely he will look to make changes in the summer again.

The Verdict:

It is no surprise to hear that players like Jedinak and Whelan could be some of the people to make way and help reduce the books at Aston Villa this summer.

As mentioned, although both are hugely experienced international footballers, the pair are entering the final years of their football careers and are believed to be on big contracts at the club that simply can not be afforded at the Championship level.

It is a move that would make complete sense for Smith to undertake, as he will look to freshen up his squad in the summer, regardless of what division they are playing their football in next season.
