Aston Villa discuss possibility of move for James Collins

Steve Bruce is keen to add to his defence this summer at Aston Villa and it appears one free agent has been discussed about a possible move back to the club.

According to a report by the Birmingham Mail, James Collins has been considered for a possible move back to the side he left in 2012.

The defender is a free agent after he was released by West Ham United this summer, however, it does not appear that the Villans have spoken to the Welsh defender about rejoining them.

The 35-year-old is not the only player to have been considered by Bruce, with the likes of John Terry also having been discussed, whilst Robert Huth is another that is available on a free transfer.

However, with the club’s new owners looking to turn the club’s recruitment policy away from signing experienced players in favour of younger stars, it remains to be seen if they do make an approach for Collins.

The Verdict:

Aston Villa will need to add a centre-back to their squad this summer if they are to put up a competitive challenge for promotion back to the Premier League.

The Villans let Tommy Elphick leave the club on a temporary deal during the transfer window, meaning James Chester is their only senior centre-back.

However, with the owners intent on trying to bring younger talent to the team, it could be unlikely that they will make a move for Collins.
