Aston Villa reject offer for James Chester

Aston Villa are in a dire situation at the moment as Steve Bruce looks to get his side ready for the upcoming Championship campaign.

The Villans are suffering with the fallout of their Play-Off final defeat to Fulham, which has seen them come under the Financial Fair Play rules and has caused disarray at the club.

Villa are preparing to lose a number of their players this summer to manage the debts, however, according to reports in the Daily Mirror, it appears they can still reject offers they do not deem fit.

The media outlet are claiming that Stoke City have had a bid of £5million rejected for James Chester, as they look to bolster their own defence.

Bruce will be keen on keeping as many of his players as possible, with it thought they cannot even sign anybody on a free transfer and the defender was instrumental last season.

Having lost John Terry this summer, the Villans will do well to keep Chester at Villa Park beyond the summer.

The Verdict:

It remains to be seen if Stoke make an improved bid for Chester during the transfer window, which could force Aston Villa’s hand.

The Villans are looking at losing the likes of Jack Grealish and Jonathan Kodjia for valuable fees, which could ease the pressure on top of them to sell other stars in their squad.

If Bruce’s side are to have a successful campaign and do well in the Championship, Chester will need to be at the heart of the defence now that Terry has left.
