Aston Villa set major hurdle after Bruce’s meeting with top brass

It was a thoroughly miserable campaign for the Aston Villa fans often found drowning their sorrows in the Transfer Tavern, having watched the side struggle.

A 13th-placed finish is all Steve Bruce’s expensively assembled side could muster and the Villains crowded around one corner of the bar are fully expecting a much better go of things next term.

So, reports from the Daily Telegraph haven’t gone down all that well. They’ve revealed Bruce has been hit with a cash freeze at Villa Park and must sell before he can buy this summer.

Having spent well over £70m over the course of the season, owner Dr Tony Xia is believed to have cut back expenditure in order to comply with FFP rules and regulations.

Bruce is understood to have met with director of football Steve Round and chief executive Keith Wyness, who reportedly told him he must clear out his squad before improving.

While our resident Villa fans understand the position the club are in on the transfer front, it’s barely the most inspiring news ahead of the new campaign.
