After weeks of speculation, one transfer saga at Villa Park that could soon be concluded is Jack Grealish to Tottenham.
It is unlikely that Tottenham will go as high as £40m, but Villa’s tricky financial predicament means a sale is inevitable.
It remains to be seen how much money will be allowed to be reinvested into the squad following Grealish’s expected departure.
But given the situation they find themselves in, the likelihood of Bruce being able to splash out on an adequate replacement is slim to none.
With that in mind, Bruce should return to his former club Manchester United and explore the possibility of bringing in Andreas Pereira on loan.
Pereira, who is valued at £5.4m by Transfermarkt, is again likely to find himself on the fringes at Old Trafford with the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata all ahead of him in Jose Mourinho’s pecking order.
Pereira spent last season out on loan at Valencia where he scored once and set up three goals in 23 La Liga appearances.
The 22-year-old had a more successful spell the campaign prior in Spanish football’s top division, scoring five goals and assisting a further three with Granada.
Pereira – an excellent dribbler – overall, has the attributes to replace Grealish and is an option that should fall in within Villa’s budget once player sales are made.
