Aston Villa team news: Smith hopeful McGinn available for Middlesbrough trip

Aston Villa will look to extend their unbeaten run to five matches when they travel to the Riverside Stadium to play Middlesbrough in Saturday’s late kickoff.

Dean Smith’s side have recorded three victories and a draw in their last four matches, however, they go up against one of the Championship’s toughest teams.

Tony Pulis’ men have been difficult to break down at times this season, having conceded just 10 goals in their 19 fixtures so far.

However, the Villans will take some confidence that they can score after hitting five past Nottingham Forest in midweek, although they did concede five as well.

According to the club’s official website, Smith will be without two of his key players for the trip, with both Albert Adomah and Alan Hutton unavailable.

The winger was injured in their Second City Derby victory over Birmingham City last weekend and is set for a spell on the sidelines with an ankle injury.

Hutton has been ruled out through suspension after he picked up his fifth yellow card of the season in the game against the Tricky Trees.

However, Smith is hopeful that John McGinn is available as he continued his return from injury with 70 minutes against Forest.

The Verdict:

Having McGinn available would be a huge boost to Smith and Villa’s chances of securing a positive result against one of the Championship’s title contenders.

The Scotland international, who is valued at £2.7million by Transfermarkt, has been a hugely influential figure in the middle of the pitch and has provided four assists and two goals so far this season.

Adomah and Hutton’s absences will come as a blow to the Villa Park outfit, but with Ahmed Elmohamady and Yannick Bolasie likely to come into the fold, the Villans will be hoping they have enough about them to get the three points from the Riverside Stadium.
