Barry Bannan to Aston Villa is a ‘non-starter’

Aston Villa are expected to head into the transfer market in January as they have certain needs that need addressing.

Dean Smith will be keen to add a number of players to his new team at the earliest opportunity as they look to improve themselves following a disappointing start to the season.

The Villans have been linked with a move for former player Barry Bannan in recent weeks, however, one report is suggesting that a deal for the Sheffield Wednesday man is unlikely to happen.

According to the Birmingham Mail, it is understood that a potential switch for the Scotland international is a ‘non-starter’.

Bannan has been excellent for the Owls this season and has been hugely influential for the Hillsborough outfit, so it would have always been considered difficult to try and bring the midfielder back to Villa Park.

The Verdict:

Aston Villa are likely to have a number of targets that they will want to try and sign this winter, however, it does not look as though Bannan will be a new addition.

Arguably, the Villans would be better off looking at improving other areas of their squad before trying to add another midfielder to a team that already has the likes of John McGinn, Jack Grealish, Birkir Bjarnason and Mile Jedinak to name a few.

One such position that Smith should look to immediately address is the defence, as they severely lack a number of options currently in order to put together a promotion charge in the Championship.
