Birkir Bjarnason may head for the Aston Villa exit

Aston Villa have had such a hard summer with the current financial situation surrounding the club, however, things could be about to get a whole lot worse.

Steve Bruce is resigned to the fact that the Villans will need to offload a number of their key players to help ease the pressure, with Jack Grealish, James Chester and Jonathan Kodjia some of those likely to head to the exits.

Mile Jedinak is also thought to be one step closer from departing from Villa Park in the coming weeks, however, a report from the Daily Mirror is suggesting that another one of the club’s key midfield influencers could be about to follow suit.

The report suggests that Birkir Bjarnason may not remain at the Villans for much longer this summer as the Iceland midfielder is likely to attract interest from potential suitors.

It has been rumoured that other Championship clubs are interested in the Iceland international and Bruce will know there is not much he can do to convince him to stay.

The Verdict:

Losing Bjarnason would be a huge blow to Aston Villa this summer as it would likely result in the club losing their main midfield trio, with Grealish and Jedinak also set to leave.

He had a difficult start to life in the Championship when he first joined from Basel in 2017, however, he had later shown his quality and influence on the pitch that led them to the Play-Off final.

Villa will know they can not stand in the way of realistic offers for the Icelander, however, they will be hoping the player does remain with them beyond the summer.
