Birkir Bjarnason seeking assurances about Aston Villa future

Aston Villa have already got their Championship campaign off to a solid start, however, one man is thought to be seeking assurances.

According to a report in the Birmingham Mail, Birkir Bjarnason has spoken with Steve Bruce about the role he will play for the Villans this season.

The Iceland international, who has attracted interest from Empoli, is thought to be happy at the club, however, he is looking for reassurances from his boss that he will play a vital role in their efforts to try and get promoted back to the Premier League.

Bjarnason managed to get a handful of goals for the Villa Park outfit last season and has already opened his account up for the current campaign after he found the back of the net on Saturday afternoon during their 3-2 win against Wigan Athletic.

The Verdict:

The 30-year-old has not really managed to have had a starring role for the club he joined in January 2017, although his contribution certainly does not go unnoticed.

Bjarnason would have felt that he would have had more opportunities at Villa Park if the likes of Mile Jedinak and Jack Grealish had moved on, however, they both stayed and now he will need to compete for a place in the midfield with them, amongst others.

Bruce will certainly want to keep the experienced man with him this summer, whilst he could prove to be important as the Championship campaign progresses.
