Aston Villa have been a mixed bag since Dean Smith took over at the club, with consistency still a big issue at Villa Park.
The Villains managed to secure all three points against Bolton Wanderers last time out in the Championship, but they still looked vulnerable at times defensively.
Interestingly, Aston Villa will travel to Pride Park to face Derby County in their next Championship fixture. The Rams have been one of the form teams in the division recently and have their sights set on automatic promotion, so the Villains will struggle to come away with anything.
With that in mind, Dean Smith must get his team selection right by selecting these TWO Aston Villa stars…
Yannick Bolasie has the ability to tear apart any defence in the Championship but he hasn’t been provided with enough opportunities at Villa Park this season. The winger did manage to find the back of the net against Preston North End after coming on as a substitute, but nothing has developed since then.
The Rams like to get their full-backs forward to try and contribute in the final third, which is why the Villains must make use of Bolasie’s pace on the counter-attack.
Derby County tend to overload the midfield and enjoy most of their success from getting the ball through the middle, so the Villains should draft in Glenn Whelan to try and put a stop to any developments in the middle of the park.
Indeed, the experienced midfielder has been preferred to Conor Hourihane at time this season, but he hasn’t put in enough accomplished performances to really be able to nail down a permanent place.
