Bruce comments on vital Aston Villa run in with Premier League return in sight

Aston Villa fans in the Transfer Tavern will be picking themselves up after last weekend’s defeat to Bolton Wanderers, whilst also seeing their side beaten by Queens Park Rangers in the fixture during the week.

The two consecutive defeats have left Steve Bruce’s men seven points behind Cardiff City, who have a game in hand following their postponement, and the manager has stated they will need to win at least six of their remain eight matches to have any chance of being promoted automatically.

The Villans will have to play the Bluebirds at Villa Park in what could be a promotion-deciding game, although the Midlands outfit may look at their other games to try and take maximum points.

“We are capable of a winning run,” he told the club’s official website.

“We have just done it. We are probably going to need to win six of our last eight but it is possible. We can’t give up.

“I am just disappointed that we have given ourselves a wonderful opportunity and our last two performances, in particular, have not been up to standard.

“We’ve had a wonderful opportunity against QPR and Bolton. No disrespect to either of them, but we haven’t taken anything from them.

“But it is not over yet. That is for sure. We can’t give up. We just have to get on with it.”

April will be a tough month for the Villans, with seven matches in the space of 29 days to be played, however, he is focused on what he has called the ‘defining month’.

“April is huge – that’s the defining month of our season,” he added.

Landlord’s Verdict

The two consecutive defeats will have caused some concern amongst the Villa faithful in the Tavern, however, their side has bounced back and gone on a long winning run in the past, showing they are more than capable for the fight. With Villa pushing for promotion, promising times could be the horizon, but it’s all about these eight cup finals right now.
