Aston Villa haven’t quite managed to ensure consistency just yet as they continue to push for promotion to the Premier League.
The Villains will have to start bucking up their ideas if they want to enjoy automatic promotion, with a number of other clubs all fighting for the top-two promotion places.
Indeed, the Midlands club have certainly impressed at times under Steve Bruce this season, but a number of changes still need to be made to iron out any underlying issues.
So, the January transfer window could prove vital come the end of the season, with a couple of quality signings possibly ensuring promotion to the top-flight of English football.
With that in mind, here’s a look at TWO January signings that would take Aston Villa to the next level…
The central midfielder hasn’t really been able to enjoy regular minutes in the first team at Goodison Park this season, with a January loan move looking likely.
Tom Davies has the potential to establish himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, but he is just lacking minutes under his belt at this moment in time.
Indeed, Aston Villa could do with bringing in another central midfielder, despite adding John McGinn to their ranks during the summer, as the likes of Mile Jedinak and Glenn Whelan lack energy at times.
Matt Targett was influential during his loan spell at Craven Cottage last season as one of the main reasons behind Fulham’s promotion to the Premier League.
Although, the left-back has been stagnating on the substitutes’ bench this season as his current club Southampton continue to turn to Ryan Bertrand, so perhaps a January loan move will help him develop some more.
Aston Villa currently have Neil Taylor and Alan Hutton in the full-back position, but both men have never really managed to have that much of an impact on proceedings, so bringing the Englishman to the club would give the Villains an attacking edge going forward.
