Aston Villa were beaten 2-0 by West Bromwich Albion in their Championship fixture at Villa Park on Saturday afternoon.
Dean Smith’s side slipped to tenth place and saw their hopes of achieving a playoff spot take a slight dent.
To make matters worse, Lovre Kalinic was forced to come off at half-time after he suffered a knock on the field and was subsequently replaced by Jed Steer.
However, Smith told the club’s official website that he does not think it will be a problem that will keep the Croatia international on the sidelines for too long.
“He got a whack on the head. He’s come from a league where the goalkeepers are a lot more protected than they are here,” he said.
“He’s caught one on the head and suffered a bit of dizziness, so we’ve had to bring him off.
“I don’t think it’ll be one that keeps him out for long, but I need to speak with the medical team.”
Aston Villa have already had to deal with their goalkeeper woes this season and will be hoping Kalinic is not out for too long as injuries are the last thing they need right now.
The Croatian joined The Villans in the winter transfer window to replace Orjan Nyland after a shaky start, however, the Norwegian is out for the remainder of the season with an Achilles problem.
If Smith’s side are to challenge for a playoff spot this season, they will need Kalinic to be available as he has the potential to be an important player for them in the final stretch of the campaign.
