Aston Villa

Houllier Close To Landing Star Barcelona Paid €20M For

Just when you thought we’d forgotten all about Aston Villa, speculation is mounting across the internet that the Midlands club may be preparing a move for Barcelona’s unsettled defender Gabriel Milito.

Villa could even get the player on a free (despite the fact he joined Barcelona for 20 million Euros in 2007), and are keeping their fingers crossed that the Catalonian club decide to let Milito go.

30 year old Milito joined Barcelona back in 2007, from Real Zaragoza but has failed to settle into the side following a nasty cruciate ligament injury. In fact, in 4 years at the Nou Camp, Milito has only featured in 43 games. Think of him as the Argentine Jonathan Woodgate. It’s undestood that the player will definitely be leaving Barcelona in the summer, and so far the only Spanish based club to have been linked with him is Malaga, who currently lie at the foot of La Liga with only 5 wins to their name.

The temptation to play in the Premiership might be enough for Milito, plus a healthy wage packet. In the last few hours, Aston Villa fans have reacted with some trepidation to the news, with many questioning whether the defender is better than what they already have at the club. Milito’s perfromances haven’t exactly been outstanding of late, and if he is to find himself at Villa Park next season, then the price needs to be right. It has to start with a £0……
