The Aston Villa fans here in the Transfer Tavern are expecting signings whether the club go up under Steve Bruce or not this season. Indeed, the Villians already boast one of the best squads in the Championship, though things will need changing either way if they are going to continue to develop.
While things have largely been going well of late, the punters propping up our bar believe the Midlands giants often rely far too much on Jack Grealish for creativity responsibility. The 22-year-old has enjoyed a good season at long last, though remains an inconsistent talent and an attacking midfielder who could do with a little bit of help in that No.10 role.
With that in mind, some of our punters clad in claret and blue believe the club should look to bring Celtic star Tom Rogic south of the Scottish border this summer. The Australian may have struggled with injuries this season, though his performances in the Champions League against Anderlecht and the Old Firm prove he can do it on the biggest stages available to him.
Perhaps not as silky as Grealish, the 25-year-old can provide a powerful option behind a central striker. In the Premier League (pending promotion of course) midfield runners are so important, especially to promoted teams, in terms of chipping in with goals and Rogic certainly can provide that helpful option.
Able to start deep and push forward, he provides so much to the engine room and his ability to strike the ball from distance always makes him a real threat to the opposition. Valued at £2.25m by Transfermarkt and reportedly stalling on a new deal with the Scottish champions, he’d be a wonderful addition to Steve Bruce’s cause at Villa Park.
