Leeds United have made an incredibly bright start to the season under Marcelo Bielsa following weeks of hype surrounding his appointment, but the club cannot afford to get carried away with their back-to-back victories over Stoke City and Derby County.
Indeed, it’s very early days in a long Championship season and the club should still be in the market for further loan deals if they wish to challenge for an automatic promotion place.
One of their potential promotion rivals, namely Aston Villa, have also started the season in positive fashion with back-to-back victories despite enduring a tough summer which was characterised by financial trouble and unwanted speculation linking Jack Grealish with a move away from the club.
Now that their financial problems have been resolved and speculation linking Grealish with Tottenham Hotspur has ended, they can turn their attention to potential loan deals, and the Northern Echo believe they are interested in signing Everton’s Yannick Bolasie, although his £75,000-per week wages could ultimately prove to be a stumbling block for the Villans.
Bolasie earned a big money transfer to Everton in August 2016 following his impressive form at Crystal Palace, but a cruciate ligament injury has prevented him from kicking on since he completed his switch to Goodison Park.
A move to the Championship makes perfect sense for Bolasie at this stage in his recovery, and his form in the Premier League suggests he could link up incredibly well with Jack Grealish in Villa’s attacking midfield.
However, Leeds are hardly stacked for options in wide positions, so they should also enter the race for his signature in order to add a signifcant layer of quality to their play in the final-third.
The likes of Kemar Roofe, Ezgjan Alioski and Pablo Hernandez have all started the season in tremendous form and provided plenty of flair in the final-third, but injuries, suspensions and dips in form are inevitable as the season develops, so the prospect of signing Bolasie should definitely be under consideration during the final weeks of the window.
Bolasie is capable of playing in a variety of attacking roles and his direct style of dribbling at speed would certainly cause plenty of problems for Championship defenders next season.
Leeds United are in a fantastic position to mount a push for promotion but adding a player of Bolasie’s quality to their ranks on a season-long loan deal would certainly strengthen their ambitions for the season ahead.
And not only would Bolasie add the desired quality, his decision to chose Elland Road over Villa Park would certainly give Leeds a psychological edge over Aston Villa as the two sides prepare to go head-to-head for promotion.
