Aston Villa have defied the odds and started their Championship campaign in tremendous fashion, making fans stop and think as to whether they will improve on their play-off final loss.
It was a horrible way to lose but after loss at the final hurdle, Villa will spend their third consecutive season in the Championship, with manager Steve Bruce hopeful of making it third time lucky now.
Their start couldn’t have been better but before getting carried away, Villans need to remember that the Championship is 46 games long and so squad depth is an extremely important factor in how successful they may or may not be.
Speaking of squad depth, to maximise that, Aston Villa should seriously look at bringing in Bournemouth’s Lys Mousset – a player valued at £3.6 million on Transfermarkt.
The 22-year-old has begun to find a place with the Cherries under Eddie Howe but the best could be seen in the Frenchman with a move on-loan to Aston Villa. Mousset was utilised 19 times off the bench in the Premier League last season and even helped himself to two goals in the limited time he had on the pitch.
Aston Villa have two trusty centre-forwards in Jonathan Kodija and Scott Hogan but Lys Mousset brings something completely different, with pace in abundance, great feet to beat a defender and the goalscoring ability that has started to show with Bournemouth.
As well as being a striker, Mousset is comfortable on the wing, running up and down providing crosses and chances for his team-mates to try and latch onto. Villa need squad depth and a quality addition like Mousset would set them on their way to a successful season.
