Aston Villa have made an excellent start to the Championship following a dismal summer transfer window.
The Villains were on the verge of financial ruin after missing out on promotion left them crippled with debt. Fortunately, the club were saved by Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens who purchased a controlling stake to help get Villa back on track. Their arrival led to speculation regarding the future of Steve Bruce, but the former Sunderland boss was given their backing to guide Villa back to the Premier League.
Despite a summer with no investment, Bruce has made a superb start to the season. Villa kicked off the new campaign with a 3-1 away win against Hull City before beating Wigan Athletic 3-2 in a five-goal thriller. With the loan window still open, Villa must act to continue their fantastic form.
One man they should seriously consider is Manchester City youngster – Patrick Roberts. Valued at £6.75m by Transfermarkt, the winger joined the Citizens from Fulham back in 2015. He was unable to break into the first-team at the Etihad and was subsequently loaned to Celtic to find first-team football.
Injuries plagued the 21-year-old last season and restricted him to just eight appearances in the SPFL. In the season previous, Roberts made 32 appearances, scoring nine and assisting four highlighting the threat he poses to defences.
The England U20 international is a fine dribbler and possesses excellent technical ability. Roberts has a point to prove that he can be a success in England and earn a place in the Manchester City first-team. Adding his pace and trickery to the forward line would help Villa finally return to the Premier League.
