Since Dean Smith has arrived at the club, Villa’s fortunes have completely changed. The side has gone from fighting to get to mid-table to now one of the in form teams in the league and are currently just three points off the playoff places.
Aside from their 1-0 loss to QPR, Villa have won four of their last six games, including a huge Second City Derby win over Birmingham. The side has always had talent but has lacked consistency and a solid back four.
Smith has completely transformed the defence and in their last six games they’ve conceded eight goals which included a 5-5 draw with Nottingham Forest.
Going forward, they look incredibly potent. With Tammy Abraham, Yannick Bolasie and Jack Grealish, they have one of the best attacks in the Championship.
With January approaching, however, Smith will need to reinvest in his squad. According to the Mirror, Villa are closing in on a deal for Burnley goalkeeper, Tom Heaton.
Following a serious knee injury, Heaton has fallen behind now club number one Nick Pope and now, new signing Joe Hart who has been superb since he’s arrived at the club.
Despite him falling down the pecking order at the club, Heaton remains a solid goalkeeper and is definitely a Premier League standard ‘keeper.
Heaton has made just three appearances for Burnley since he picked up his injury and would be a massive upgrade on summer signing, Orjan Nyland. The summer signing has been poor since he’s arrived at the club and Heaton would be a quality signing to bring in.
