Steve Bruce’s £15M Bid Would Ruin Another Harry Redknapp Striker Dream

Sunderland boss Steve ‘the hair-cut’ Bruce first priority this summer will be to finally find a replacement for Darren Bent. Sunderland received a fee of £18 million rising to £24 mil for the transfer and will look to use the funds this summer to reinforce their striking options. This has led to them to Spurs target, French hot-shot Kevin Gameiro who currently plays for FC Lorient.

Gameiro is currently 2nd placed in the Ligue 1 top scorers with 16 goals in 27 appearances. His team, FC Lorient, are currently sitting 9th in the table and look set to miss out on Europe this season, 11 points behind the qualification places. While this all very interesting, I am just trying to show this boy must have some talent to be able to produce when playing for one of the lesser quality teams in French football.

I have heard his name touted around the Tavern on numerous occasions, and he has been named as one of the 20 million other strikers Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has been chasing. However I would suspect Spurs to be going for a more high profile name this summer, therefore Bruce might have a chance with the 23 year old.

The Frenchman is known for good dribbling skills, energetic runs and electrifying pace. His scoring record would also show he has an instinct for goal, having scored 43 goals in 93 appearances in total, for the French Club. Bruce would have the cash for the striker as it is rumoured he is valued at around £10-12 million by his current employers.

It seems as though the player has enough talent to be a success in the Premier League despite his agile frame. The Black Cats boss only has Asamoah Gyan and Frazier Campbell as his permanently signed forwards as Welbeck is only on loan. While he is looking to sign the Manchester United striker permanently, he doubts whether Sir Alex will be willing to let him go. Gameiro remains an easier acquisition and could provide and exciting partnership with Gyan, should he get the chance to join the Ghanaian.
