Tammy Abraham and Jack Grealish could form a formidable partnership next season

Aston Villa’s summer is looking a lot less miserable now than it did just a few weeks ago during Tony Xia’s crushing financial crisis, and the recent takeover could even enable them to keep Jack Grealish at the club.

For weeks it appeared that the sale of Grealish would be sanctioned out of necessity to balance the books at Villa Park, but now that the requirement to sell has been lifted Steve Bruce has every chance of keeping the club’s crown jewel this summer.

And according to a recent report from The Sun, Villa are turning their attention to potential incoming, rather than outgoing signings.

The report claims that Villa are in the market for a new centre-forward this summer, with Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham on their radar following his relatively stop-start loan-spell at Swansea City last season.

The same report claims that Abraham is eager to embark on another loan spell in the Premier League but, despite this, Villa should do everything in their power to convince him that a Championship switch is in his best interests, as he could bring out the best in Jack Grealish next season.

Abraham proved that he has the ability to score goals on a regular basis in the Championship during his loan spell with Bristol City in the 2016/17 season.

During that campaign he scored 23 goals from just 41 appearances and gave defenders a torrid time with his desire to make runs in behind the defence at every available opportunity.

And it’s his tendency to use his explosive pace off the shoulder of the last man which could bring the best out of Grealish next season, as not only will Abraham’s running create more situations to play killer through-balls, it will create space for the 22-year-old playmaker to exploit in between the lines of defence and midfield.

Grealish’s performances during Villa’s failed promotion bid last season highlighted the extent of his  improvement during the past twelve months, but the signing of Abraham would help him to step up  yet another level next season, providing he remains at the club of course.
