Multiple sources, including The Sun and The Mirror, are reporting that Real Madrid star Pedro Leon is set for a move to the Premier League.
Having shunned a return to Getafe very recently, Pedro Leon is apparently set for a Premier League move with his destination one of a possible three: Villa Park, Craven Cottage or Goodison Park.
He is set to meet Real Madrid officials imminently to discuss his long term future at the club but with Real Madrid’s wide personnel packed full of incredible talent, opportunities look understandably slim for him. This is unfortunate for Leon who is an immense player but he has only amassed 6 appearances for Jose Mourinho’s side since his arrival in the summer of 2010.
He would be quite welcome in the Premier League though and there are supposedly three clubs attempting to land his signature. Having arrived at Real Madrid for £8.75m just one year ago however, his transfer fee will not be on the cheap side.
This would potentially rule out all of the clubs in the running for him as Aston Villa and Everton are not in as position to spend big sums of money while Fulham have good numbers in wing personnel.
Everton are the only club in the football league who have so far not managed to make a permanent signing and Villa’s wage bill is a well documented issue with McLeish admitting they must sell to buy. Fulham have Duff, Davies and Dembele all capable on the wing with the Riise brothers able to step in also and are more likely to spend the likely fee on another striker to rotate with Zamora and Johnson.
There is no doubt Pedro Leon is a quality wide player who would excel in the Premier League, but it might be that the three clubs supposedly in the race for him are in fact not trying to secure his signature. Nevertheless, he would be a marquee signing for most Premier League clubs.
