Birmingham City are hopeful of being able to hand Jefferson Montero his debut against Barnsley, as reported by The Birmingham Mail.
The club are waiting for the Ecuadorian to get international clearance, which is the reason he missed the 3-0 loss against Nottingham Forest.
Pep Clotet has said: “We just hope that Swansea and the Welsh FA sort out the clearance and the player is ready to play with us soon,”
The Blues struggled to create chances against Forest, getting just two shots on target in the entirety of the match, as per WhoScored.
Montero only started one game and came on as a substitute three times in the league during his loan spell at West Bromwich in the second half of last season, scoring one goal.
His spell at Swansea, during the first half of the campaign, acts as a better indicator of what he could do in blue, as it saw him come off the bench 12 times, coming up with three assists, averaging 1.2 key passes and 1.5 dribbles per game – which is a high return considering he wasn’t even starting matches.
This type of creativity is definitely something that should be able to help Birmingham if Montero is available.
If Birmingham are able to get Montero on the pitch for long periods of time he can be a real asset this season.
There is no need to panic after the Blues’ first league loss of the season, but it will be encouraging to get back to winning ways quickly, something Montero could help his new teammates towards.
