Pep Clotet expects full-back, Cheick Keita, to stay with Birmingham City, as reported by The Birmingham Mail.
The 23-year-old, who has been included in squads for the Mali national team but never got on the pitch, has not featured in any of Blues’ games so far this season due to injury.
In fact, Keita has only played 11 competitive games for Birmingham, with the most recent of those coming in May 2017, when he came off the bench for the final 11 minutes of a 1-0 loss against Ipswich Town, as per Transfermarkt.
He spent the 2017/18 season on loan with Bologna, but missed part of the season due to injury, only managing to make three appearances for the Serie A side, totalling 125 minutes – though 90 of those did come against Juventus.
The 23-year-old then went to Belgian side KAS Eupen for the entirety of last season and had a far more productive period, representing them 24 times across the campaign, scoring twice and assisting once, with one of those goals coming against Genk.
If Keita were to stay with Birmingham and excel, then he could be like a new signing for Blues considering how little he has played for the club.
He is still only 23-years-old, so there is certainly still a chance he can come good if Clotet finds the best way to use him.
