Pep Clotet has said that he wants his side to bounce back in their midweek match against Barnsley.
Having suffered their first league defeat of the season after being on the wrong side of a 3-0 scoreline against Nottingham Forest, Clotet is hoping his side will be able to get more points on the board in their midweek game at home.
Speaking to Birmingham’s official channels ahead of the game, the Birmingham caretaker manager said: “Absolutely we want to bounce back and make sure we return to being solid and keep going on from our last performance at St. Andrew’s.”
Despite the poor scoreline against Forest, there were some signs that Birmingham can build on in this game.
Clotet’s side actually held 53.1% of possession, made more dribbles than Forest, outdid them in aerial duels, as well as getting more corners, as per WhoScored.
The issue is they were unable to convert this into shots, as they only managed 2 on target, compared to 5 from the men in red.
Dan Crowley put in a good performance despite the loss, as mentioned in Transfer Tavern’s Unsung Hero feature, completing 94% of his attempted passes and making 3 key passes throughout that match, as per WhoScored – if Birmingham are able to get the ball to him more often then this could help create more shooting opportunities for players such as Lukas Jutkiewicz.
Clotet is right to be hopeful about the idea of bouncing back from the loss against Forest when his side faces Barnsley – who have also won, drawn and lost once in the league this campaign.
Playing at home with the positives from the previous game and those before, it should mean Birmingham can get some points on the board.
