The struggles in the Sky Bet Championship continued for Charlton Athletic last night as they lost narrowly to Derby County 2-1 at Pride Park in their final game of 2019.
Overall, this calendar year has been one that Addicks fans will remember for the right reasons. After all, it has yielded them a spot in the second tier after winning the play-off final against Sunderland.
However, after a bright start to proceedings this season, they have been struck with a horrendous injury crisis that is still raging and the need for new players in the January window is great.
Indeed, they had to name another patchwork side against the Rams last night and duly lost out with the men from Pride Park relying on a couple of their youngsters to prove the difference.
Let’s take a look, then, at how Addicks fans reacted to the result on Twitter as they look for better news in 2020:

Shocking performance tonight no excuses.

How many times do we use it as an excuse, injuries are NOT the problem, our defence is all over the place. That's our problem, a massive problem #CAFC

Injury ravaged or not we played against 10 men for the majority of the match. Awful performance. Got exactly what we deserved, nothing.

We’re in trouble

Deserved to lose. Need some new players ASAP

I’m sorry but you can’t keep blaming the injury ravaged squad. We should be doing better against ten men. Passing so slow backwards sideways. And we won’t talk bout the second goal. Embarrassing. Takeover needs to happen ASAP

Moaning about injuries doesn’t get us any points

They may have had 10 men but we had about 6
