The Rams suffered a heartbreaking defeat at Pride Park after Alan Browne’s 96th-minute winner for the visitors condemned Wayne Rooney’s side to their 10th defeat of the season and another round of fixtures in the Championship relegation zone.
While goalkeeper David Marshall made a series of saves to keep Derby in the game, Waghorn got himself sent off after just 20 minutes for a high tackle on Browne, leaving the hosts with ten men for the rest of the affair.
Should Martyn Waghorn be dropped?
Up to that point, Waghorn had a shot on goal and won three individual duels before he was given his marching orders (Sofascore).
Unsurprisingly, supporters were livid with Waghorn, with some suggesting that he should be sold next month.
Fans fume at Waghorn
“Waghorn is a league 1 player. With a league 1 brain. #dcfc #dcfcfans”
“Waghorn didn’t need to make that challenge, don’t think we’ll really miss him anyway.”
“Waghorn should pay for every fans match today. His performances have been shocking apart from the Forest game, let him go in January”
“Agree, both are far superior to Waghorn who offers absolutely nothing and couldn’t score to save his life, hopefully Ibe gets up to speed soon.”
“That was a good performance – stupid from Waghorn – would prob have won that game with him on the pitch. Definitely lacking that cutting edge with or without him. A lot more steel, spirit and resilience on the pitch though #dcfc”
“Waghorn needs a good talking to by Rooney”
