According to the Telegraph journalist John Percy, Derby County are now very close to sealing the signing of Jack Marriott from Peterborough United.
Marriott has been on the radar of several Championship clubs this summer following his efforts in League One last season. 33 goals in all competitions last time out has made the 23-year-old marksman a tantalising proposition for plenty of promotion-hopeful second tier outfits.
With Derby now apparently so close to getting a deal over the line for the Posh striker, any other interested parties have left it late to make Marriott their own.
However, until everything is signed and official, there is always time for other clubs to make their move.
West Brom should be amongst those considering making a bold late swoop for the forward.
Darren Moore’s Baggies could desperately do with making an inspiring addition to their forward line soon. With Salomon Rondon looking close to an exit from the Hawthorns, as reported by the Daily Mail, the striking options at the club are set to become even more thin on the ground.
If West Brom are serious about mounting a genuine attempt to secure an immediate return to the top flight, then they need to start adding goals to their squad.
Goals are exactly what Jack Marriott would bring. The Peterborough man’s link up play could also become a vital part of West Brom’s approach to attacking moves, as Marriott’s all round game and technical skills of a high quality.
Above all, Marriott has the potential to be prolific in the Championship. If landing the striker means that Darren Moore has to force through a bid at the 11th hour, then that is exactly what he should do.
